One and a half cubits for the Kukku, with eight spans surrounding it;

Cái trụ siṃsapā bằng gỗ lõi, không có dăm đó, đứng ở đâu mà không rơi xuống từ trên cao?

The thirty rafters, made of heartwood, not straight, surrounding and standing firmly;

Kharattacaṃ bellaṃ yathāpi satthavā, anāmasantopi karoti tittakaṃ;

Just as a merchant, even without peeling a rough-skinned bael fruit, makes it bitter;

Samāharaṃ sāduṃ karoti patthiva, asāduṃ kayirā tanubandhamuddharaṃ^* .

But by peeling it thinly, he makes it unpalatable, O king, while by peeling it properly, he makes it sweet.

Vua ơi, người biết cách gọt sẽ làm nó ngọt, người gọt mỏng sẽ làm nó không ngon.

Even so, a wise person in villages and towns, collecting royal revenues without oppression,

Dhammānuvattī paṭipajjamāno, sa phāti kayirā aviheṭhayaṃ paraṃ.

Acting in accordance with Dhamma, brings about prosperity without harming others.

Odātamūlaṃ sucivārisambhavaṃ, jātaṃ yathā pokkharaṇīsu ambujaṃ;

Just as a lotus, with pure white roots, born in clear water in ponds,

Như hoa sen có gốc trắng, sinh ra từ nước trong sạch, mọc trong ao;

Padumaṃ yathā agginikāsiphālimaṃ, na kaddamo na rajo na vāri limpati.

Like a lotus blooming in the sun's rays, is not defiled by mud, dust, or water.

Như hoa sen nở rộ dưới ánh mặt trời, bùn, bụi và nước không thể làm vấy bẩn nó.

Evampi vohārasuciṃ asāhasaṃ, visuddhakammantamapetapāpakaṃ;

Even so, one who is pure in conduct, not oppressive, with purified actions, and free from evil,

Cũng vậy, người thanh tịnh trong hành vi, không bạo lực, có hành động trong sạch, tránh xa điều ác;

Na limpati kammakilesa tādiso, jātaṃ yathā pokkharaṇīsu ambujanti.

Such a person is not defiled by the defilements of kamma, just like a lotus born in ponds.

Những ô nhiễm nghiệp không làm vấy bẩn người như vậy, giống như hoa sen mọc trong ao.
