‘‘Padumuttaro nāma jino, lokajeṭṭho narāsabho;
“There was a Victor named Padumuttara, chief of the world, a bull among men;

Mahato janakāyassa, deseti amataṃ padaṃ.
He taught the deathless state to a great multitude of people.

“Having heard his utterance, the supreme word that was proclaimed;

Añjaliṃ paggahetvāna, ekaggo āsahaṃ tadā.
I raised my clasped hands, and at that time, I was concentrated.
Ta đã chắp tay và tập trung tâm ý vào lúc đó.

“Just as the ocean is supreme among waters, just as Meru, the mountain peak, is excellent among mountains;
Như biển cả là tối thượng trong các loại nước, núi Meru là tối thượng trong các ngọn núi;

Tatheva ye cittavasena vattare, na buddhañāṇassa kalaṃ upenti te.
Even so, those who act according to their minds do not attain a fraction of the Buddha’s knowledge.
Cũng vậy, những ai hành xử theo ý muốn của tâm, họ không thể sánh bằng một phần nhỏ trí tuệ của Đức Phật.

‘‘Dhammavidhiṃ* ṭhapetvāna, buddho kāruṇiko isi;
“Having set forth the method of Dhamma, the compassionate sage, the Buddha;
Đức Phật, vị ẩn sĩ đầy lòng từ bi, sau khi thiết lập phương pháp giáo pháp;

Bhikkhusaṅghe nisīditvā, imā gāthā abhāsatha.
Seated in the assembly of bhikkhus, spoke these verses.

Kappānaṃ satasahassaṃ, duggatiṃ na gamissati.
For a hundred thousand aeons, he will not go to a woeful state.
Người ấy sẽ không rơi vào khổ cảnh trong một trăm ngàn kiếp.

Sau khi đốt cháy các phiền não, với tâm định tĩnh và an trú;

He will be a disciple of the Teacher, by the name of Sobhita.’
Vị ấy sẽ trở thành đệ tử của Bậc Đạo Sư với tên Sobhita.”

“Fifty thousand aeons ago, there were seven kings named Yasuggata;

Endowed with the seven jewels, powerful Wheel-turning monarchs.

Tisso vijjā anuppattā, kataṃ buddhassa sāsanaṃ.
The three knowledges are attained, the Buddha’s teaching has been done.
Ba minh đã được chứng đắc, giáo pháp của Đức Phật đã được thực hành.

‘‘Paṭisambhidā catasso, vimokkhāpi ca aṭṭhime;
“The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations;
Bốn Tuệ Phân Tích, và tám giải thoát này;

Chaḷabhiññā sacchikatā, kataṃ buddhassa sāsanaṃ’’.
The six supernormal powers are realized, the Buddha’s teaching has been done.”
Sáu thắng trí đã được chứng đắc, giáo pháp của Đức Phật đã được thực hành.”

Itthaṃ sudaṃ āyasmā sobhito thero imā gāthāyo abhāsitthāti.
Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Sobhita spoke these verses.

“On the bank of the Vinatā river, there was a fruitful fig tree;

Tāhaṃ rukkhaṃ gavesanto, addasaṃ lokanāyakaṃ.
Searching for that tree, I saw the leader of the world.
Khi ta đang tìm kiếm cây ấy, ta đã thấy bậc lãnh đạo thế gian.

“Having seen a blooming ketaka, and having cut its stem at that time;
Khi thấy hoa Ketaka nở rộ, ta đã hái nó từ cuống;

Buddhassa abhiropesiṃ, sikhino lokabandhuno.
I offered it to Sikhi, the Buddha, the kinsman of the world.
Và cúng dường lên Đức Phật Sikhī, bậc thân quyến của thế gian.

That knowledge I worship, O supreme Buddha, great sage.
Con xin cúng dường trí tuệ ấy, Đức Phật tối thượng, Đại Hiền giả.

“Having made an offering to knowledge, I saw the fig tree;
Sau khi cúng dường trí tuệ, ta đã thấy cây Pilakkha;

Paṭiladdhomhi taṃ paññaṃ* , ñāṇapūjāyidaṃ phalaṃ.
I have gained that wisdom; this is the fruit of the offering to knowledge.
Ta đã đạt được trí tuệ ấy, đây là quả của sự cúng dường trí tuệ.

“Thirty-one aeons ago, I offered that flower;

I do not know a woeful state; this is the fruit of the offering to knowledge.
Ta không biết đến khổ cảnh, đây là quả của sự cúng dường trí tuệ.
