Freed from all sensual pleasures, the destruction of defilements (āsavakkhaya) has been attained by me.”

A subtle dart, hard to remove, honor is difficult for a base person to abandon.”

You have been restrained by wisdom, you will not go far.”

Chavasittova me patto, paṃsukūlañca cīvaraṃ.

My bowl was like a skull, and my robe was a rag from a dust-heap (paṃsukūla).”

Bát của tôi như hộp sọ, y phục của tôi chỉ là vải vụn từ đống rác (paṃsukūla).”

‘‘Dvinnaṃ antaravassānaṃ, ekā vācā me bhāsitā;

“During two rainy seasons, I spoke only one word;

“Trong hai mùa an cư (antaravassa), tôi chỉ nói một lời (từ chối sữa);

In the third rainy season, the mass of darkness (tamokhandha) was shattered.”

“Hỡi chư hiền, dù cho một người có Tam Minh (tevijja), thoát khỏi tử thần, không còn lậu hoặc (anāsava);

Appaññātoti naṃ bālā, avajānanti ajānatā.

Fools, not knowing, despise him as unknown.

Nhưng những kẻ ngu si, không hiểu biết, vẫn coi thường người ấy vì không nổi tiếng (appaññāta).”

‘‘Yo ca kho annapānassa, lābhī hotīdha puggalo;

But the person who obtains food and drink here,

“Và người nào ở đây được lợi lộc về đồ ăn thức uống;

Pāpadhammopi ce hoti, so nesaṃ hoti sakkato’’ti.

Even if he is of evil conduct, he is honored by them.”

Dù người ấy có ác pháp (pāpadhamma), vẫn được họ tôn kính.”

I knew no doubt in the Omniscient One, the Unconquered.

Tôi không còn nghi ngờ gì về bậc Toàn Giác (Sabbaññū), bậc Vô Thắng (Aparājita).”

In the caravan leader, the great hero, the best of charioteers;

Magge paṭipadāyaṃ vā, kaṅkhā mayhaṃ na vijjatī’’ti.

No doubt exists for me regarding the path or the practice.”

Về con đường (Magga) hay sự thực hành (Paṭipadā), tôi không còn nghi ngờ gì nữa.”

“Như ngôi nhà lợp mái dở, mưa sẽ thấm vào;

Evaṃ abhāvitaṃ cittaṃ, rāgo samativijjhati.

So lust (rāga) penetrates an undeveloped mind.

Cũng vậy, tâm không tu tập, tham ái (rāga) sẽ xuyên thủng.”

Just as rain does not penetrate a well-thatched house;

“Như ngôi nhà lợp mái khéo, mưa sẽ không thấm vào;

Evaṃ subhāvitaṃ cittaṃ, rāgo na samativijjhatī’’ti.

So lust (rāga) does not penetrate a well-developed mind.”

Cũng vậy, tâm đã tu tập khéo, tham ái (rāga) sẽ không xuyên thủng.”

“Hỡi chư hiền, sự tái sinh (jāti) của tôi đã tận, đời sống Phạm hạnh (jinasāsana) đã được thực hành;

Pahīno jālasaṅkhāto, bhavanetti samūhatā.

The net-like craving (jālasaṅkhāta) is abandoned, the leading to existence (bhavanetti) is uprooted.

Cái gọi là lưới (jālasaṅkhāta) đã được từ bỏ, sợi dây dẫn đến hữu thể (bhavanetti) đã bị nhổ tận gốc.”

‘‘Yassatthāya pabbajito, agārasmānagāriyaṃ;

For the sake of which I went forth from home to homelessness;

So me attho anuppatto, sabbasaṃyojanakkhayo’’ti.

That goal has been attained by me, the destruction of all fetters (sabbasaṃyojanakkhaya).”

Sadā ve rakkhitabbāsu, yāsu saccaṃ sudullabhaṃ.

In whom truth is very hard to find, who must always be guarded.”

Những người mà sự thật (sacca) luôn khó tìm thấy, luôn phải được bảo vệ.”

‘‘Vadhaṃ carimha te kāma, anaṇā dāni te mayaṃ;

“We have wandered for your destruction, O Kāma, now we are free from debt to you;

“Hỡi dục vọng, chúng tôi đã thực hành để diệt trừ ngươi, giờ đây chúng tôi không còn nợ nần gì ngươi nữa;

Gacchāma dāni nibbānaṃ, yattha gantvā na socatī’’ti.

Now we go to Nibbāna, where having gone, one does not grieve.”

Suhataṃ hanti attānaṃ, vītaṃseneva pakkhimā.

The deceiver destroys himself, having well-slain himself, just as a bird-snare slays winged creatures.

Người ấy tự hại mình một cách khéo léo, như chim bị bẫy.”

‘‘Na brāhmaṇo bahivaṇṇo, anto vaṇṇo hi brāhmaṇo;

“A brahmin is not merely by outward appearance; truly, a brahmin is by inner qualities.

“Bà-la-môn không phải là vẻ bề ngoài, mà là vẻ bên trong;

Yasmiṃ pāpāni kammāni, sa ve kaṇho sujampatī’’ti.

In whom evil deeds exist, he is indeed a dark, base person,” so says the lord of Sujā.

Through wisdom, one understands the meaning; the understood meaning brings happiness.

Nhờ trí tuệ mà hiểu được ý nghĩa (attha), ý nghĩa đã được hiểu sẽ mang lại hạnh phúc (sukhāvaho).”

therefore, one should avoid that lazy person of weak effort.
