Dependent on a phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled and a phenomenon that is defiled but not defilement, a phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled arises by way of root-condition – dependent on the defilement of sensual desire and the associated aggregates, the defilement of wrong view and the defilement of ignorance (thus the cycle should be formed).(1)111. A phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled is a condition by way of contiguity condition for a phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled – prior prior defilements are a condition by way of contiguity condition for later later defilements.(1)112. A phenomenon that is defiled but not defilement is a condition by way of contiguity condition for a phenomenon that is defiled but not defilement – prior prior aggregates that are defiled but not defilement are a condition by way of contiguity condition for later later aggregates that are defiled but not defilement; initial attention (anuloma) for the Gotrabhū, initial attention for purification; advertence is a condition by way of contiguity condition for aggregates that are defiled but not defilement.(1)113. Phenomena that are both cankers and with cankers, and with cankers but not cankers, are a condition for a phenomenon that is both a canker and with cankers, by way of immediate contiguity condition – earlier and earlier cankers and associated aggregates are a condition for later and later cankers, by way of immediate contiguity condition.(1)114.
