Having completed the work in the relic chamber, the subduer of enemies;

Sannipātaṃ kārayitvā, saṅghassa idhamabravi.

Convened the Saṅgha and addressed them thus:

“Indeed, the work in the relic chamber has been completed by me;

Tomorrow, venerable sirs, I shall enshrine the relics; know the relics.”

Having said this, the great king then entered the city;

The Saṅgha, considering which bhikkhu should bring the relics,

Who possessed six higher knowledges, for the task of bringing the relics.

When the Protector was wandering for the welfare of the world;

A young man named Nanduttara, on the bank of the Ganges.

The Teacher and the Saṅgha boarded a boat to proceed.

There, the elder Bhaddaji, possessing six higher knowledges and great psychic power;

Jalapakkhalitaṭṭhānaṃ, disvā bhikkhū idaṃ vadī.

Seeing the spot where the water was disturbed, said this to the bhikkhus:

“Here, a golden palace, twenty-five yojanas high, which I spoke of as Mahāpanāda;

Having reached the Ganges, it disturbed the water here;

The bhikkhus, not believing it, reported it to the Teacher.

Ascended into the sky by psychic power, stood at a height of seven palmyra trees;

Dūssathūpaṃ brahmaloke, ṭhapetvā vaḍḍhite kare.

Placed the cloth stupa in the Brahmā world, and with his hands extended it.

Sau khi đặt tháp vải trong cõi Phạm thiên, và giơ tay lên.

Idhā’netvā dassayitvā, janassa puna taṃ tahiṃ;

Having brought it here and shown it to the people, he then;

Having placed it back in its original spot, came to the Ganges by psychic power.

Taking the palace by his big toe, with its pinnacle of gold;

Having lifted it up and shown it to the people, he threw it back there.

The young man Nanduttara, seeing that miracle;

Thought, “May I be able to bring relics that are dependent on others.”

Thus he aspired, and for this reason, the Saṅgha appointed the ascetic Soṇuttara;

Tasmiṃ kamme niyojesi, soḷasavassikaṃ api.

For that task, even though he was sixteen years old.

“From where shall I bring the relics?” so he asked the Saṅgha;

Kathesi saṅgho therassa, tassa tā dhātuyo iti.

The Saṅgha told the elder about those relics thus:

“The World-Protector, lying on his Parinibbāna couch;

Dhātūhipilokahi taṃ, kātuṃ devinda mabruvi.

Told Devinda (Sakka) to make the world joyous with relics.

Ngài đã bảo Vua trời làm cho thế gian được lợi ích bằng xá-lợi.

Devinda’ṭṭhasu doṇesu, mama sāriradhāthusu;

‘Devinda, among the eight measures (doṇa) of my bodily relics;

One measure, venerated by the Koliyas in Rāmagāma.

Was then taken to the Nāga world, and venerated by the Nāgas there;

He caused a great and well-arranged relic enshrinement to be made.

He brought seven measures of relics and caused them to be enshrined;

But the measure in Rāmagāma, he did not take, knowing the future intention.

“That (relic) was designated by the Victor for deposition in the Great Stūpa” –

Dhammāsokaṃ nivāresuṃ, tattha khiṇāsavāyati.

Thus, the Arahants there prevented King Dhammāsoka.

Then, a stūpa was built at Rāmagāma on the bank of the Gaṅgā;

It settled amidst an eighteen-cubit high mound of various gems.

At the start of the king’s departure, in the city, the great sound of musical instruments (arose);

“This ascetic is capable of taking them by force.

Therefore, the relics must be taken elsewhere.” So thinking,

He indicated this to his nephew who was standing there.
