Tròn trịa, che kín, khép kín, mắt nhìn xuống;
Ukkhittojjagghikā saddo, tayo ceva pacālanā.
Uplifted, boisterous laughter, sound, and three acts of swaying.
Ngẩng đầu, cười lớn, tiếng động, và ba sự lắc lư.
Khambhaṃ oguṇṭhito cevukkuṭipallatthikāya ca;
Stiff, covered, and squatting, with crossed legs;
Khamba, oguṇṭhita, ukkuṭi và pallatthikā;
Sakkaccaṃ pattasaññī ca, samasūpaṃ samatittikaṃ* .
With care, mindful of the bowl, even with broth, even with rice grains.
Sakkacca, pattasaññī, samasūpa, samatittika.
Sakkaccaṃ pattasaññī ca, sapadānaṃ samasūpakaṃ;
With care, mindful of the bowl, eating in sequence, with broth;
Sakkacca, pattasaññī, sapadāna, samasūpaka;
Thūpakato paṭicchannaṃ, viññattujjhānasaññinā.
Piling up, covered, with intention of requesting, with intention of finding fault.
Thūpakata, paṭicchanna, viññatti, ujjhānasaññinā.
Na mahantaṃ maṇḍalaṃ dvāraṃ, sabbaṃ hatthaṃ na byāhare;
Not too large a mouthful, not opening the mouth, not speaking with the whole hand;
Không quá lớn, maṇḍala, dvāra, không nói chuyện khi ăn;
Ukkhepo chedanā gaṇḍo, dhunaṃ sitthāvakārakaṃ.
Throwing up, cutting, forming lumps, shaking, scattering rice grains.

Jivhānicchārakañceva, capucapu surusuru;
Sticking out the tongue, making 'capu capu' and 'suru suru' sounds;

Hattho patto ca oṭṭho ca, sāmisaṃ sitthakena ca.
Licking the hand, the bowl, and the lips, with food, with rice grains.
Hattho, patto, oṭṭho, sāmisa, sitthakena.
Evameva daṇḍapāṇissa, satthaāvudhapāṇinaṃ.
Just so to one holding a staff, to one holding a knife, and to one holding a weapon.
Cũng vậy, cho người cầm gậy, người cầm dao, người cầm vũ khí.
Pādukā upāhanā ceva, yānaseyyāgatassa ca;
Sandals, shoes, and to one in a vehicle or lying down;
Người mang dép guốc, người mang giày, người đang đi xe, người đang nằm;
Pallatthikā nisinnassa, veṭhitoguṇṭhitassa ca.
For one sitting cross-legged, and for one with head wrapped or covered;
Người ngồi kiết già, người đầu quấn khăn và người đầu trùm khăn;
Chamā nīcāsane ṭhāne, pacchato uppathena ca;
On the ground, in a low seat, in a standing position, from behind, and on a wrong path;
trên đất, trên chỗ ngồi thấp, ở chỗ đứng, đi phía sau và đi đường ngược chiều;
Ṭhitakena na kātabbaṃ, harite udakamhi cāti.
By one standing, it should not be done on grass and in water.
Người đứng không nên làm (chuyện đó), trên cỏ và trong nước.
Parimaṇḍalaujjagghi, khambhaṃ piṇḍaṃ tatheva ca;
Sitting properly, laughing, stiffly, lump, chewing noisily, and with sandals – these are the seven.
Tròn trịa, cười lớn, ưỡn ngực, vắt cơm và cũng vậy;
Kabaḷā surusuru ca, pādukena ca sattamāti.
Eating a lump of food, chewing noisily, and with sandals, these are the seventh.
Miếng cơm, húp xì xụp và thứ bảy là đi dép.
