He himself abstains from the destruction of life, he encourages others to abstain from the destruction of life, he approves of the abstinence from the destruction of life, and he speaks in praise of the abstinence from the destruction of life. Endowed with these four qualities, bhikkhus, he is, as if brought, deposited in heaven.”

Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure concerning the world; he dwells contemplating feelings in feelings…pe… mind in mind…pe… phenomena in phenomena, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure concerning the world.
Ở đây, này các Tỳ-khưu, một Tỳ-khưu sống quán thân trên thân, nhiệt tâm, tỉnh giác, chánh niệm, nhiếp phục tham ưu ở đời; sống quán thọ trên các cảm thọ… (cũng như trên)… sống quán tâm trên tâm… (cũng như trên)… sống quán pháp trên các pháp, nhiệt tâm, tỉnh giác, chánh niệm, nhiếp phục tham ưu ở đời.

Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu generates desire for the non-arising of unarisen evil unwholesome states, he strives, arouses energy, exerts his mind, and makes an effort; for the abandoning of arisen evil unwholesome states…pe… for the arising of unarisen wholesome states…pe… for the maintenance, non-confusion, increase, development, cultivation, and perfection of arisen wholesome states, he generates desire, strives, arouses energy, exerts his mind, and makes an effort.
Ở đây, này các Tỳ-kheo, một Tỳ-kheo phát sinh ý muốn, nỗ lực, khởi sự tinh tấn, giữ tâm vững chắc, và tinh cần để các pháp bất thiện, ác chưa sanh không sanh khởi; để các pháp bất thiện, ác đã sanh được đoạn trừ…pe… để các pháp thiện chưa sanh được sanh khởi…pe… để các pháp thiện đã sanh được an trú, không bị quên lãng, được tăng trưởng, được phát triển, được tu tập, được viên mãn, vị ấy phát sinh ý muốn, nỗ lực, khởi sự tinh tấn, giữ tâm vững chắc, và tinh cần.

Ở đây, này các Tỳ-kheo, một Tỳ-kheo tu tập thần túc (iddhipāda) có định do dục (chanda), có hành tinh cần (padhānasaṅkhāra); có định do tinh tấn (vīriya)…pe… có định do tâm (citta)…pe… có định do quán sát (vīmaṃsā), có hành tinh cần.

304-783. ‘‘Dosassa…pe… mohassa… kodhassa… upanāhassa… makkhassa… paḷāsassa… issāya… macchariyassa… māyāya… sāṭheyyassa… thambhassa… sārambhassa… mānassa… atimānassa… madassa… pamādassa abhiññāya… pariññāya… parikkhayāya… pahānāya… khayāya… vayāya… virāgāya… nirodhāya… cāgāya… paṭinissaggāya ime cattāro dhammā bhāvetabbā’’ti.
304-783. “For the direct knowledge… for the full understanding… for the complete destruction… for the abandoning… for the destruction… for the fading away… for the dispassion… for the cessation… for the relinquishment… for the giving up of hatred…pe… delusion… anger… resentment… denigration… domineering… envy… avarice… deceit… craftiness… obstinacy… arrogance… conceit… excessive pride… intoxication… heedlessness, these four qualities are to be developed.”
304-783. “Để thắng tri… để biến tri… để đoạn tận… để đoạn trừ… để tiêu diệt… để hoại diệt… để ly tham… để diệt trừ… để xả bỏ… để từ bỏ sân (dosa)…pe… si mê (moha)… sân hận (kodha)… hiềm hận (upanāha)… lật lọng (makkha)… não hại (paḷāsa)… tật đố (issā)… xan tham (macchariya)… lừa dối (māyā)… xảo trá (sāṭheyya)… cứng đầu (thambha)… tranh chấp (sārambha)… kiêu mạn (māna)… tăng thượng mạn (atimāna)… say đắm (mada)… phóng dật (pamāda), bốn pháp này cần được tu tập.”
