246. Evaṃ me sutaṃ – ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā āḷaviyaṃ viharati āḷavakassa yakkhassa bhavane.
246. Thus have I heard – on one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling in Āḷavī, in the abode of the yakkha Āḷavaka.
246. Tôi nghe như vầy – Một thời, Đức Thế Tôn trú tại Āḷavī, trong dinh thự của dạ-xoa Āḷavaka.
Atha kho āḷavako yakkho yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘nikkhama, samaṇā’’ti.
Then the yakkha Āḷavaka approached the Blessed One; having approached, he said to the Blessed One: ‘‘Go out, ascetic!’’
Bấy giờ, dạ-xoa Āḷavaka đi đến chỗ Đức Thế Tôn đang ở; sau khi đến, dạ-xoa nói với Đức Thế Tôn: “Sa-môn, hãy ra ngoài!”
‘‘Sādhāvuso’’ti bhagavā nikkhami.
‘‘Very well, friend,’’ the Blessed One went out.
Đức Thế Tôn nói: “Lành thay, hiền giả.” Rồi Đức Thế Tôn đi ra.
‘‘Pavisa, samaṇā’’ti.
‘‘Come in, ascetic!’’
“Sa-môn, hãy vào!”
‘‘Sādhāvuso’’ti bhagavā pāvisi.
‘‘Very well, friend,’’ the Blessed One entered.

Dutiyampi kho āḷavako yakkho bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘nikkhama, samaṇā’’ti.
A second time the yakkha Āḷavaka said to the Blessed One: ‘‘Go out, ascetic!’’

A fourth time the yakkha Āḷavaka said to the Blessed One: ‘‘Go out, ascetic!’’
Lần thứ tư, dạ-xoa Āḷavaka nói với Đức Thế Tôn: “Sa-môn, hãy ra ngoài!”
‘‘Na khvāhaṃ taṃ, āvuso, nikkhamissāmi.
‘‘I will not go out, friend.
Đức Thế Tôn nói: “Này hiền giả, Ta sẽ không ra ngoài nữa.
Yaṃ te karaṇīyaṃ taṃ karohī’’ti.
Do what you must.’’
Ngươi muốn làm gì thì hãy làm đi.”
‘‘Pañhaṃ taṃ, samaṇa, pucchissāmi.
‘‘I will ask you a question, ascetic.
“Này Sa-môn, ta sẽ hỏi ông một câu hỏi.
Sace me na byākarissasi, cittaṃ vā te khipissāmi, hadayaṃ vā te phālessāmi, pādesu vā gahetvā pāragaṅgāya khipissāmī’’ti.
If you do not answer me, I will scatter your mind, or burst your heart, or take you by the feet and throw you across the Ganges.’’
Nếu ông không trả lời ta, ta sẽ làm cho tâm ông rối loạn, hoặc xé nát tim ông, hoặc nắm chân ông ném qua bờ sông Gaṅgā.”
‘‘Na khvāhaṃ taṃ, āvuso, passāmi sadevake loke samārake sabrahmake sassamaṇabrāhmaṇiyā pajāya sadevamanussāya, ye me cittaṃ vā khipeyya hadayaṃ vā phāleyya, pādesu vā gahetvā pāragaṅgāya khipeyya.
‘‘I do not see, friend, in this world with its devas, Māras, and Brahmās, among the generation of ascetics and brahmins, devas and humans, anyone who could scatter my mind, or burst my heart, or take me by the feet and throw me across the Ganges.
Đức Thế Tôn nói: “Này hiền giả, Ta không thấy một ai trong thế giới này, cùng với chư thiên, Ma vương, Phạm thiên, cùng với các Sa-môn, Bà-la-môn, cùng với loài người và chư thiên, có thể làm cho tâm Ta rối loạn, hoặc xé nát tim Ta, hoặc nắm chân Ta ném qua bờ sông Gaṅgā.
Api ca tvaṃ, āvuso, puccha yadā kaṅkhasī’’ti* .
But, friend, ask what you wish.’’
Tuy nhiên, này hiền giả, ngươi muốn hỏi gì thì hãy hỏi đi.”
