"Whose path you do not know, neither of his coming nor his going;

“Con không biết đường đi của chúng sinh đã đến, hay đã đi;

Taṃ kuto cāgataṃ sattaṃ^* , ‘mama putto’ti rodasi.

From where did that being come? Why do you weep, 'my son'?

Hỡi chúng sinh từ đâu đến, con khóc ‘con tôi’ làm gì?

‘‘Maggañca khossa^* jānāsi, āgatassa gatassa vā;

"But if you know his path, of his coming and his going;

Nếu con biết đường đi của chúng sinh đã đến, hay đã đi;

Na naṃ samanusocesi, evaṃdhammā hi pāṇino.

You would not grieve for him, for such is the nature of living beings.

Thì con sẽ không than khóc, vì chúng sinh có bản chất như vậy.

"Uninvited he came from there, unpermitted he went from here;

Không được thỉnh cầu mà đến, không được cho phép mà đi;

Kutoci nūna āgantvā, vasitvā katipāhakaṃ;

Having certainly come from somewhere, having stayed for a few days;

Chắc chắn từ đâu đó đến, ở lại vài ngày;

Itopi aññena gato, tatopaññena gacchati.

From here he went to another, from there he goes to another.

Từ đây lại đi đến nơi khác, từ đó lại đi đến nơi khác nữa.

‘‘Peto manussarūpena, saṃsaranto gamissati;

"The departed one, in human form, will wander on;

Chúng sinh sẽ luân hồi, mang hình hài con người;

Yathāgato tathā gato, kā tattha paridevanā’’.

As he came, so he went; what is there to lament about?"

Đến như thế nào thì đi như thế ấy, có gì mà than khóc?”

‘‘Abbahī^* vata me sallaṃ, duddasaṃ hadayassitaṃ;

"Indeed, the dart, hard to see, lodged in my heart, has been extracted by me;

“Ôi, mũi tên khó thấy, ẩn sâu trong tim tôi, đã được rút ra;

Yā me sokaparetāya, puttasokaṃ byapānudi.

She who, when I was overcome by sorrow, dispelled my sorrow for my son.

Mũi tên ấy đã xua tan nỗi đau buồn về con trai, khi tôi bị sầu khổ xâm chiếm.

‘‘Sājja abbūḷhasallāhaṃ, nicchātā parinibbutā;

"Now, with the dart extracted, I am quenched, fully cooled;

Nay tôi đã rút mũi tên, đã dập tắt khát ái, đã được Niết Bàn;

Buddhaṃ dhammañca saṅghañca, upemi saraṇaṃ muniṃ’’.

I go for refuge to the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Saṅgha, the Sage."

Tôi nương tựa Đức Phật, Pháp và Tăng, bậc Hiền giả.”

Itthaṃ sudaṃ pañcasatamattā therī bhikkhuniyo…pe….

Thus, indeed, five hundred Therī bhikkhunīs…pe….

Naggā pakiṇṇakesī ca, tena tena vicārihaṃ.

Naked and with disheveled hair, I wandered here and there.

Trần truồng, tóc tai bù xù, tôi lang thang khắp nơi.

‘‘Vīthi^* saṅkārakūṭesu, susāne rathiyāsu ca;

"I dwelled in rubbish heaps, in cemeteries, on roads;

Tôi đã sống ở những đống rác, ở nghĩa địa và trên đường phố;

Acariṃ tīṇi vassāni, khuppipāsāsamappitā.

I wandered for three years, tormented by hunger and thirst.

Suốt ba năm, tôi bị đói khát hành hạ, lang thang khắp nơi.

‘‘Athaddasāsiṃ sugataṃ, nagaraṃ mithilaṃ pati^* ;

"Then I saw the Fortunate One, who had gone to the city of Mithilā;

Rồi tôi thấy Đức Thế Tôn, đã đến thành Mithilā;

Adantānaṃ dametāraṃ, sambuddhamakutobhayaṃ.

The Awakened One, the tamer of the untamed, who is free from all fear.

Bậc điều ngự những kẻ chưa được điều ngự, Đức Chánh Đẳng Giác không còn sợ hãi.

‘‘Sacittaṃ paṭiladdhāna, vanditvāna upāvisiṃ;

“Then I, having regained my composure, bowed down and sat near;

Tôi đã lấy lại được tâm trí, đảnh lễ và ngồi xuống;

So me dhammamadesesi, anukampāya gotamo.

Out of compassion, Gotama taught me the Dhamma.

Đức Gotama đã thuyết Pháp cho tôi, vì lòng từ bi.

‘‘Tassa dhammaṃ suṇitvāna, pabbajiṃ anagāriyaṃ;

“Having heard his Dhamma, I went forth into homelessness;

Nghe Pháp của Ngài, tôi đã xuất gia, sống không gia đình;

Yuñjantī satthuvacane, sacchākāsiṃ padaṃ sivaṃ.

Exerting myself in the Teacher’s Dispensation, I realized the peaceful state.

Chuyên tâm thực hành lời dạy của Bậc Đạo Sư, tôi đã chứng đạt cảnh giới an lành.

‘‘Sabbe sokā samucchinnā, pahīnā etadantikā;

“All sorrows are uprooted, abandoned from this point onwards;

Tất cả sầu khổ đã bị cắt đứt, đã được diệt trừ hoàn toàn;

Pariññātā hi me vatthū, yato sokāna sambhavo’’ti.

Indeed, the bases from which sorrows arise have been fully comprehended by me.”

Tôi đã hoàn toàn thấu hiểu những căn nguyên mà từ đó sầu khổ phát sinh.”

Pañcaṅgikena turiyena^* , ehi kheme ramāmase’’.

Come, Khemā, let us enjoy ourselves with the fivefold music.”

Hãy đến đây, chúng ta hãy vui hưởng với âm nhạc năm loại.”

‘‘Iminā pūtikāyena, āturena pabhaṅgunā;

“With this foul body, diseased and perishable,

“Với cái thân thối nát này, bệnh hoạn và dễ hoại diệt;

Aṭṭiyāmi harāyāmi, kāmataṇhā samūhatā.

I am disgusted, I am repelled; craving for sensual pleasures has been uprooted.

Tôi chán ghét, tôi kinh tởm, tham ái dục đã bị diệt trừ.

‘‘Sattisūlūpamā kāmā, khandhāsaṃ adhikuṭṭanā;

“Sensual pleasures are like spears and stakes, a chopping block for the aggregates;

Dục lạc như mũi giáo, là nơi nương tựa của các uẩn;

Yaṃ ‘tvaṃ kāmaratiṃ’ brūsi, ‘aratī’ dāni sā mama.

What you call ‘delight in sensual pleasures’ is now ‘disgust’ for me.

Điều ông gọi là ‘hỷ lạc dục’, giờ đây đối với tôi là ‘bất lạc’.

‘‘Sabbattha vihatā nandī, tamokhandho padālito;

“Delight has been destroyed everywhere, the mass of darkness has been split asunder;

Ở khắp mọi nơi, niềm hoan hỷ đã bị diệt trừ, khối tối tăm đã bị phá tan;

Evaṃ jānāhi pāpima, nihato tvamasi antaka.

Know this, Evil One, you, O Destroyer, are defeated.”

Hỡi kẻ ác, hãy biết như vậy, ngươi đã bị ta đánh bại, hỡi Kẻ Diệt Vong.

‘‘Nakkhattāni namassantā, aggiṃ paricaraṃ vane;

“Worshipping constellations, attending to fire in the forest,

Những kẻ ngu si, không biết sự thật, đã nghĩ rằng sự thanh tịnh đến từ việc;

Yathābhuccamajānantā, bālā suddhimamaññatha.

Not knowing the truth, fools imagined purity.

Đảnh lễ các vì sao, thờ cúng lửa trong rừng.

“But I, worshipping the Fully Awakened One, the best of men,

Còn tôi, đảnh lễ Đức Chánh Đẳng Giác, Bậc Tối Thượng của loài người;

Pamuttā^* sabbadukkhehi, satthusāsanakārikā’’ti.

Am freed from all suffering, having followed the Teacher’s Dispensation.”

Đã thoát khỏi mọi khổ đau, nhờ thực hành lời dạy của Bậc Đạo Sư.”

Sabbābharaṇasañchannā, dāsīgaṇapurakkhatā.

Covered with all ornaments, preceded by a retinue of maidservants.

Được bao phủ bởi mọi đồ trang sức, và được đoàn tỳ nữ vây quanh.

‘‘Annaṃ pānañca ādāya, khajjaṃ bhojjaṃ anappakaṃ;

“Taking food and drink, and not a little hard and soft food,

Mang theo thức ăn và đồ uống, nhiều món ăn vặt và món ăn chính;

Gehato nikkhamitvāna, uyyānamabhihārayiṃ.

I left the house and went to the park.

Tôi ra khỏi nhà và đi đến công viên.

“Having enjoyed and played there, as I was returning home,

Vihāraṃ daṭṭhuṃ pāvisiṃ, sākete añjanaṃ vanaṃ.

I entered the Añjana forest in Sāketa to see the monastery.

Tôi vào khu rừng Añjana ở Sāketa để thăm vihāra.

“Having seen the Light of the World, I bowed down and sat near;

So me dhammamadesesi, anukampāya cakkhumā.

Out of compassion, the Possessor of Eyes taught me the Dhamma.

Bậc Có Mắt đã thuyết Pháp cho tôi, vì lòng từ bi.

‘‘Sutvā ca kho mahesissa, saccaṃ sampaṭivijjhahaṃ;

“And having heard the Dhamma of the Great Seer, I penetrated the truth;

Nghe Pháp của Bậc Đại Hiền, tôi đã thấu hiểu sự thật;

Tattheva virajaṃ dhammaṃ, phusayiṃ amataṃ padaṃ.

Right there I realized the dustless Dhamma, the deathless state.

Ngay tại đó, tôi đã chứng đạt Pháp vô nhiễm, cảnh giới bất tử.

‘‘Tato viññātasaddhammā, pabbajiṃ anagāriyaṃ;

“Then, having known the true Dhamma, I went forth into homelessness;

Sau đó, đã thấu hiểu Chánh Pháp, tôi xuất gia, sống không gia đình;

Tisso vijjā anuppattā, amoghaṃ buddhasāsana’’nti.

The three knowledges have been attained; the Buddha’s Dispensation is not in vain.”

Tôi đã đạt được Tam Minh, giáo pháp của Đức Phật không vô ích.”

“Desired by princes, coveted by sons of merchants;

Các hoàng tử khao khát, các con trai trưởng giả thèm muốn;

Pitu me pesayī dūtaṃ, detha mayhaṃ anopamaṃ.

They sent a messenger to my father: ‘Give us Anopamā!’

Họ đã sai sứ giả đến cha tôi, nói: ‘Hãy gả Anopamā cho chúng tôi’.

I will give eight times that in gold and jewels.’

“Out of compassion, Gotama taught me the Dhamma;

Seated on that seat, I realized the third fruit.

Khi đang ngồi trên chỗ ngồi đó, tôi đã chứng đạt quả vị thứ ba.

“All suffering has been fully comprehended, the causal craving has been dried up;

Mọi khổ đau đã được tôi thấu hiểu, tham ái là nguyên nhân đã bị làm khô cạn;

Bhāvito aṭṭhaṅgiko^* maggo, nirodho phusito mayā.

The Noble Eightfold Path has been developed, cessation has been realized by me.

Bát Chánh Đạo đã được tu tập, sự diệt khổ đã được tôi chứng đạt.

‘‘Mātā putto pitā bhātā, ayyakā ca pure ahuṃ;

“Mother, son, father, brother, and grandmother I was before;

Mẹ, con, cha, anh, và bà nội, trước đây tôi đã từng là;

Yathābhuccamajānantī, saṃsariṃhaṃ anibbisaṃ.

Not knowing the truth, I wandered endlessly in saṃsāra.

Không biết sự thật, tôi đã luân hồi không ngừng nghỉ.

‘‘Diṭṭho hi me so bhagavā, antimoyaṃ samussayo;

“Indeed, I have seen that Blessed One; this is my last body;

Tôi đã thấy Đức Thế Tôn, đây là thân cuối cùng của tôi;

Vikkhīṇo jātisaṃsāro, natthi dāni punabbhavo.

The saṃsāra of birth is exhausted, there is no more rebirth now.

Luân hồi sinh tử đã chấm dứt, không còn tái sinh nữa.

‘‘Āraddhavīriye pahitatte, niccaṃ daḷhaparakkame;

“To see disciples with aroused energy, resolute, always firm in effort,

Samagge sāvake passe, esā buddhāna vandanā.

United, this is the homage to the Buddhas.

Hòa hợp, đó là sự đảnh lễ chư Phật.

‘‘Bahūnaṃ^* vata atthāya, māyā janayi gotamaṃ;

“For the welfare of many, Māyā gave birth to Gotama;

Ôi, vì lợi ích của nhiều người, Māyā đã sinh ra Gotama;

Byādhimaraṇatunnānaṃ, dukkhakkhandhaṃ byapānudī’’ti.

He dispelled the mass of suffering for those afflicted by sickness and death.”

Ngài đã xua tan khối khổ đau của những ai bị bệnh tật và cái chết hành hạ.”
