‘‘Sukhaṃ supāhi therike, katvā coḷena pārutā;

“Sleep happily, O Therī, wrapped in your rag-robe;

“Này Trưởng lão ni, hãy an trú an lạc, thân được đắp y phấn tảo;

Upasanto hi te rāgo, sukkhaḍākaṃ va kumbhiya’’nti.

For your passion has subsided, like a dried-up vegetable in a pot.”

Vì dục ái của cô đã được dập tắt, ví như rau khô trong nồi canh.”

Itthaṃ sudaṃ aññatarā therī apaññātā bhikkhunī gāthaṃ abhāsitthāti.

Thus, it is said, a certain unknown Therī, a bhikkhunī, spoke this verse.

Như vậy, một vị Trưởng lão ni vô danh đã nói lên bài kệ này.

‘‘Mutte muccassu yogehi, cando rāhuggahā iva;

“Muttā, be freed from the yokes, like the moon from the grasp of Rāhu;

“Này Muttā, hãy giải thoát khỏi các ách buộc, như mặt trăng thoát khỏi sự che khuất của Rahu;

Vippamuttena cittena, anaṇā bhuñja piṇḍaka’’nti.

With a well-freed mind, enjoy almsfood, debt-free.”

Với tâm đã hoàn toàn giải thoát, hãy thọ dụng vật thực khất thực mà không còn nợ.”

Itthaṃ sudaṃ bhagavā muttaṃ sikkhamānaṃ imāya gāthāya abhiṇhaṃ ovadatīti.

Thus, it is said, the Blessed One constantly advised Muttā, the sikkhamānā, with this verse.

Như vậy, Đức Thế Tôn đã thường xuyên khuyên dạy vị Tỳ-khưu ni Muttā đang học giới bằng bài kệ này.

‘‘Puṇṇe pūrassu dhammehi, cando pannaraseriva;

“Puṇṇā, fill yourself with the Dhamma, like the moon on the fifteenth day;

“Này Puṇṇā, hãy làm cho các pháp được sung mãn, như mặt trăng vào ngày rằm;

Paripuṇṇāya paññāya, tamokhandhaṃ^* padālayā’’ti.

With perfected wisdom, shatter the mass of darkness.”

Với trí tuệ viên mãn, hãy phá tan khối si ám.”

Itthaṃ sudaṃ puṇṇā therī gāthaṃ abhāsitthāti.

Thus, it is said, Puṇṇā Therī spoke this verse.

Như vậy, Trưởng lão ni Puṇṇā đã nói lên bài kệ này.

Sabbayogavisaṃyuttā, cara loke anāsavā’’ti.

Freed from all yokes, wander in the world, taintless.”

Hãy sống không lậu hoặc trong thế gian, hoàn toàn thoát ly mọi ách buộc.”

“Này Tissā, hãy tinh tấn trong các pháp, chớ để khoảnh khắc trôi qua cô;

Khaṇātītā hi socanti, nirayamhi samappitā’’ti.

For those who have missed the moment grieve, consigned to hell.”

Vì những ai để khoảnh khắc trôi qua sẽ phải than khóc, bị đọa vào địa ngục.”

Maintain your final body, having conquered Māra with his retinue.”

Hãy giữ gìn thân cuối cùng này, sau khi đã chiến thắng Ma vương cùng với quân đội của nó.”

From the mortar, from the pestle, and from my crooked husband;

Khỏi cái cối, cái chày, và người chồng gù;

Muttāmhi jātimaraṇā, bhavanetti samūhatā’’ti.

Freed am I from birth and death; the craving that leads to becoming is uprooted.”

Tôi đã được giải thoát khỏi sinh tử, ái dẫn đến tái sinh đã bị nhổ tận gốc.”

Kāmesu appaṭibaddhacittā^* , uddhaṃsotāti vuccatī’’ti^* .

Whose mind is unbound by sensual pleasures, is called an ‘Upstreamer’.”

Với tâm không còn ràng buộc vào các dục lạc, vị ấy được gọi là người đi ngược dòng.”

Quickly wash your feet and sit down in a secluded place.”

Hãy nhanh chóng rửa chân, rồi ngồi xuống một bên.”

Hãy từ bỏ dục ái trong các cõi, cô sẽ sống an tịnh.”

Having uprooted craving with its root, I am cooled and Nibbutā.”

Having abandoned lust and hatred, and having eradicated ignorance;

Having uprooted craving with its root, I am peaceful and extinguished.’’
