‘‘Punāparaṃ yadā homi, saṅkhapālo mahiddhiko;

Again, when I was Saṅkhapāla, mighty and powerful,

Dāṭhāvudho ghoraviso, dvijivho uragādhibhū.

With fangs as weapons, intensely venomous, two-tongued, the lord of serpents.

Với nanh làm vũ khí, nọc độc ghê gớm, lưỡi đôi, chúa tể loài rắn.

‘‘Catuppathe mahāmagge, nānājanasamākule;

At a crossroads on a great highway, frequented by various people,

“Tại ngã tư đường lớn, nơi tụ tập của nhiều người;

Caturo aṅge adhiṭṭhāya, tattha vāsamakappayiṃ.

Having undertaken four vows, I resided there.

Tôi đã an trú bốn chi phần và cư ngụ tại đó.

‘‘Chaviyā cammena maṃsena, nahāruaṭṭhikehi vā;

“Whoever has need of my skin, hide, flesh,

“Bằng da, bằng thịt, bằng gân hay xương;

Yassa etena karaṇīyaṃ, dinnaṃyeva harātu so.

Or sinews and bones, let him take it, for it is given.”

Ai có việc cần đến những thứ này, hãy lấy đi, tôi đã cho rồi.”

‘‘Addasaṃsu bhojaputtā, kharā luddā akāruṇā;

The sons of the Bhoja clan, fierce, cruel, and merciless, saw me;

“Những người con của Bhoja, hung dữ, tàn bạo, vô lòng từ bi, đã thấy tôi;

Upagañchuṃ mamaṃ tattha, daṇḍamuggarapāṇino.

They approached me there, with staffs and clubs in hand.

Họ đến chỗ tôi, tay cầm gậy gộc.

‘‘Nāsāya vinivijjhitvā, naṅguṭṭhe piṭṭhikaṇṭake;

Having pierced through my nose, and through my tail and spine,

“Họ đã xuyên qua mũi, đuôi và xương sống của tôi;

Kāje āropayitvāna, bhojaputtā hariṃsu maṃ.

The Bhoja sons carried me away, having placed me on a pole.

Rồi đặt tôi lên đòn gánh, những người con của Bhoja đã mang tôi đi.

‘‘Sasāgarantaṃ pathaviṃ, sakānanaṃ sapabbataṃ;

Even if I wished, I could have incinerated the entire earth, with its oceans,

“Nếu tôi muốn, tôi có thể thiêu rụi cả trái đất, cùng với đại dương, rừng rậm và núi non;

Icchamāno cahaṃ tattha, nāsāvātena jhāpaye.

With its forests and mountains, by a breath from my nostrils.

Bằng hơi thở từ mũi của mình.

‘‘Sūlehi vinivijjhante, koṭṭayantepi sattibhi;

Even when they pierced me with stakes and struck me with lances,

“Khi bị xiên bằng cọc, bị đâm bằng giáo;

Bhojaputte na kuppāmi, esā me sīlapāramī’’ti.

I did not become angry with the Bhoja sons; this was my Pāramī of Sīla.”

Tôi đã không nổi giận với những người con của Bhoja, đây là Ba-la-mật về giới của tôi.”

The tenth, Saṅkhapāla Cariya, is concluded.

Given to anyone; therefore, that was my Sīlapāramī.
