Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa

Homage to the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Perfectly Self-Enlightened One.

Nirantaraṃ lokahitassa kārakaṃ

Who constantly works for the welfare of the world,

Đấng không ngừng tác thành lợi ích cho thế gian,

Nirantaraṃ lokahitassa desakaṃ,

Who constantly expounds the welfare of the world,

Đấng không ngừng thuyết giảng lợi ích cho thế gian,

Nirantaraṃ lokahitassa cintakaṃ

Who constantly contemplates the welfare of the world,

Đấng không ngừng tư duy về lợi ích cho thế gian,

Namāmi vīraṃ naradammasārathiṃ;

I bow to that Hero, the charioteer of men to be tamed;

Con xin đảnh lễ bậc Anh Hùng, người điều ngự những kẻ đáng được điều ngự;

Pañhadhammaviduṃ nāthaṃ guyhadhammappakāsakaṃ,

To the Protector, skilled in the Dhamma of questions, the revealer of profound Dhamma,

Bậc Lãnh Đạo thông suốt các pháp vấn đáp, bậc tuyên thuyết các pháp vi diệu,

Namassivāna sambuddhaṃ dhammaṃ sādhuguṇampi ca;

Having paid homage to the Perfectly Enlightened One, and to the Dhamma with its excellent qualities;

Sau khi đã đảnh lễ Đức Chánh Đẳng Giác, và cả Pháp với những phẩm chất tốt đẹp;

Nāgasenamahātheraṃ piṭakattayakovidaṃ,

And having bowed my head to the Great Elder Nāgasena, skilled in the Three Piṭakas,

Đại Trưởng lão Nāgasena, bậc thông suốt Tam Tạng,

Vadivā tampi sirasā pañhadhammappakāsakaṃ;

Who expounded the Dhamma of questions;

Cũng cúi đầu đảnh lễ vị ấy, bậc tuyên thuyết các pháp vấn đáp;

Milidapañhavivaraṇaṃ madhurathappakāsiniṃ,

I shall compose a commentary on the Milindapañha, a sweet exposition.

Bản giải thích Milindapañha, làm sáng tỏ ý nghĩa ngọt ngào,

Racayissaṃ samāsena taṃ suṇātha samāhitā;

Listen to it attentively.

Tôi sẽ soạn thảo một cách tóm lược, quý vị hãy chú tâm lắng nghe.

1. The two main headings are 'Exposition of Miscellaneous Topics' and 'Extracts from Jātakas'.

"Interconnection, word, meaning of word, etymology of word,

Sự liên kết, từ, nghĩa của từ, sự phân tích từ,

Codanā parihāro’ti chabbidhā athavaṇṇanā’ti;

Question, and answer — these six kinds of explanation" (are stated).

Sự chất vấn và sự giải đáp, như vậy có sáu phương pháp giải thích.

Vuttattā sambadho tāva veditabbo.

Since it is said, the interconnection (sambandha) should first be understood.

Do đã được nói đến, trước hết cần phải hiểu về sự liên kết.

So ca yathāvuttājjhāhāravasena duvidho.

And that is of two kinds, based on the aforementioned implied meaning (ajjhāhāra).
