Katamā pañca, satthavaṇijjā sattavaṇijjā maṃsavaṇijjā majjavaṇijjā visavaṇijjā.
Which five? Trading in weapons, trading in living beings, trading in meat, trading in intoxicants, and trading in poisons.
Năm loại nào? Buôn bán vũ khí, buôn bán sinh vật, buôn bán thịt, buôn bán rượu, buôn bán thuốc độc.
Imā kho bhikkhave pañca vaṇijjā upāsakena akaraṇīyā’’ti evaṃ kho bhante bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
These, monks, are the five trades that should not be engaged in by an Upāsaka." Thus, venerable sir, was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Này các Tỳ-khưu, đây là năm loại buôn bán mà một cư sĩ không nên làm.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Vi – Venerable sir, the tenth Gavesī Sutta was spoken by the Blessed One in Kosala, concerning the venerable Ānanda Thera, the Dhammabhaṇḍāgārika.

Āyasmā bhante ānandatthero dhammabhaṇḍāgāriko bhagavantaṃ etadavoca ‘‘ko nu kho bhante hetu ko paccayo bhagavato sitassa pātukammāya, na akāraṇena tathāgatā sitaṃ pātukarontī’’ti.
Venerable sir, the venerable Ānanda Thera, the Dhammabhaṇḍāgārika, said this to the Blessed One: "What, venerable sir, is the reason, what is the cause for the manifestation of a smile in the Blessed One? Tathāgatas do not manifest a smile without a reason."
Bạch Thế Tôn, Đại đức Ānanda, vị giữ kho Pháp, đã bạch Thế Tôn rằng: ‘‘Bạch Thế Tôn, nguyên nhân nào, duyên cớ nào khiến Thế Tôn mỉm cười hiển lộ? Chư Như Lai không mỉm cười hiển lộ mà không có nguyên nhân.’’
Tasmiṃ bhante vatthusmiṃ ‘‘bhūtapubbaṃ ānanda imasmiṃ padese nagaraṃ ahosi iddhañceva phītañca bahujanaṃ ākiṇṇamanussaṃ, taṃ kho panānanda nagaraṃ kassapo bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho upanissāya vihāsī’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
In that context, venerable sir, it was spoken by the Blessed One beginning with: "Formerly, Ānanda, in this place there was a city, rich and prosperous, populous with many people. And that city, Ānanda, the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Perfectly Self-Awakened One, lived relying on."
Bạch Thế Tôn, trong trường hợp đó, Thế Tôn đã thuyết với lời mở đầu như sau: ‘‘Này Ānanda, thuở xưa, tại vùng này có một thành phố thịnh vượng, phồn vinh, đông dân cư, người qua lại tấp nập. Này Ānanda, Đức Kassapa, bậc A-la-hán, Chánh Đẳng Giác, đã an trú nương tựa thành phố đó.’’

Vi – Venerable sir, the eighth Vācā Sutta in the Brāhmaṇa Vagga was spoken by the Blessed One: "Monks, a speech endowed with five qualities is well-spoken, not ill-spoken, blameless, and not to be blamed by the wise.
Vi – Bạch Thế Tôn, trong phẩm Brāhmaṇa, kinh Vācā thứ tám đã được thuyết như sau: ‘‘Này các Tỳ-khưu, lời nói đầy đủ năm pháp thì là lời nói thiện thuyết chứ không phải ác thuyết, là lời nói không đáng trách và không bị người trí khiển trách.
Katamehi pañcahi, kālena bhāsitā hoti, saccā ca bhāsitā hoti, saṇhā ca bhāsitā hoti, atthasaṃhitā ca bhāsitā hoti, mettācittena ca bhāsitā hoti, imehi kho bhikkhave pañcahi aṅgehi samannāgatā vācā subhāsitā hoti no dubbhāsitā, anavajjā ca ananuvajjā ca viññūna’’nti evaṃ kho bhante bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
With which five? It is spoken at the right time, it is spoken truthfully, it is spoken gently, it is spoken for a purpose, and it is spoken with a mind of loving-kindness. Monks, a speech endowed with these five qualities is well-spoken, not ill-spoken, blameless, and not to be blamed by the wise." Thus, venerable sir, was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Năm pháp nào? Được nói đúng lúc, được nói đúng sự thật, được nói dịu dàng, được nói có lợi ích, được nói với tâm từ ái. Này các Tỳ-khưu, lời nói đầy đủ năm chi phần này thì là lời nói thiện thuyết chứ không phải ác thuyết, là lời nói không đáng trách và không bị người trí khiển trách.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Katamehi pañcahi, yasmiṃ bhikkhave samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṃ upasaṅkamante manussā disvā cittāni pasādenti, saggasaṃvattanikaṃ bhikkhave taṃ kulaṃ tasmiṃ samaye paṭipadaṃ paṭipannaṃ hotī’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
Which five? Monks, at the time when people see virtuous renunciants visiting a family and gladden their minds, at that time that family has entered upon a path conducive to heaven." Thus was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Năm phương diện nào? Này các Tỳ-khưu, vào lúc mà những người trong gia tộc nhìn thấy các vị xuất gia có giới hạnh đến và tâm họ hoan hỷ, thì này các Tỳ-khưu, gia tộc đó vào lúc ấy đã thực hành con đường dẫn đến cõi trời.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Katame pañca, assutaṃ suṇāti, sutaṃ pariyodāpeti, kaṅkhaṃ vitarati, diṭṭhiṃ ujuṃ karoti, cittamassa pasīdati, ime kho bhikkhave pañca ānisaṃsā dhammassavane’’ti evaṃ kho bhante bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
Which five? One hears what has not been heard, one clarifies what has been heard, one overcomes doubt, one straightens one's view, and one's mind becomes gladdened. These, monks, are the five advantages of listening to the Dhamma." Thus, venerable sir, was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Năm lợi ích nào? Nghe điều chưa từng nghe, làm cho điều đã nghe được thanh tịnh, vượt qua nghi ngờ, làm cho tà kiến trở nên chánh kiến, tâm được hoan hỷ. Này các Tỳ-khưu, đây là năm lợi ích khi nghe Pháp.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Katame pañca, bahuno janassa appiyo hoti amanāpo, verabahulo ca hoti, vajjabahulo ca, sammūḷho kālaṃ karoti, kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinipātaṃ nirayaṃ upapajjatī’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
Which five? One is disliked and displeasing to many people, one is prone to enmity, one is prone to fault-finding, one dies bewildered, and with the breaking up of the body, after death, one reappears in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, a downfall, in hell." Thus was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Năm tai họa nào? Bị nhiều người ghét bỏ, không được ưa thích; có nhiều kẻ thù; có nhiều lỗi lầm; chết trong sự si mê; sau khi thân hoại mạng chung, sanh vào cõi dữ, ác thú, đọa xứ, địa ngục.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Which five? Those who are not confident do not become confident; for some who are confident, their confidence changes; the Teacher's teaching is not put into practice; later generations fall into following their example; and one's mind is not gladdened.
Năm tai họa nào? Người chưa tin sẽ không tin, một số người đã tin sẽ thay đổi niềm tin, lời dạy của Bậc Đạo Sư không được thực hành, thế hệ sau sẽ noi theo gương xấu, tâm của người đó không được thanh tịnh.
Ime kho bhikkhave pañca ādīnavā apāsādike’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
These, monks, are the five disadvantages of being displeasing." Thus was it spoken by the Blessed One.

With which five? He is not endowed with proper conduct, nor with proper observances; he is not learned, nor a preserver of what he has heard; he is not one who contemplates, nor one who delights in seclusion; he is not eloquent, nor one whose speech is good; he is dull-witted, sluggish, a mute fool.
Năm pháp nào? Không đầy đủ oai nghi, không đầy đủ phận sự; không đa văn, không thọ trì điều đã nghe; không có khả năng độc cư, không thích thú sự độc cư; không có lời nói tốt đẹp, không có cách nói tốt đẹp; ngu si, đần độn, câm ngọng.
Imehi kho bhikkhave pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu abhāvanīyo hotī’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
Monks, an Āvāsika bhikkhu endowed with these five qualities is not to be admired." Thus was it spoken by the Blessed One.
Này các Tỳ-khưu, một Tỳ-khưu trụ xứ đầy đủ năm pháp này thì không đáng được ca ngợi.’’ Bạch Thế Tôn, Thế Tôn đã thuyết như vậy.

Vi – Venerable sir, the seventh Avaṇṇāraha Sutta was spoken by the Blessed One in that same section: "Monks, an Āvāsika bhikkhu endowed with five qualities is deposited in hell just as he was brought there.
Vi – Bạch Thế Tôn, cũng tại đó, kinh Avaṇṇāraha thứ bảy đã được thuyết như sau: ‘‘Này các Tỳ-khưu, một Tỳ-khưu trụ xứ đầy đủ năm pháp thì bị ném thẳng vào địa ngục như đã được mang đến.’’
Katamehi pañcahi, ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā avaṇṇārahassa vaṇṇaṃ bhāsati, ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā vaṇṇārahassa avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati, āvāsamaccharī hoti āvāsapaligedhī, kulamaccharī hoti kulapaligedhi, saddhādeyyaṃ vinipāteti.
By which five? Without inquiring, without investigating, he speaks praise of one deserving dispraise; without inquiring, without investigating, he speaks dispraise of one deserving praise; he is stingy with regard to lodgings, he is greedy for lodgings; he is stingy with regard to families, he is greedy for families; he squanders offerings of faith.
Với năm điều nào? Không điều tra, không xem xét mà tán thán người đáng bị chê bai; không điều tra, không xem xét mà chê bai người đáng được tán thán; có lòng keo kiệt đối với trú xứ, tham đắm trú xứ; có lòng keo kiệt đối với gia đình, tham đắm gia đình; làm hư hoại vật cúng dường của người có đức tin.
Imehi kho bhikkhave pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṃ nikkhitto evaṃ niraye’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
“Indeed, O bhikkhus, a resident bhikkhu endowed with these five qualities is deposited in hell as if carried there,” thus was it spoken by the Blessed One, beginning with this.

Which five? One blames oneself; having investigated, the discerning censure one; a bad reputation spreads; one dies bewildered; with the breaking up of the body, after death, one reappears in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, the lower realms, hell.
Năm điều nào? Chính mình cũng tự trách mình; những người trí sau khi xem xét sẽ chỉ trích; danh tiếng xấu lan truyền; chết trong sự mê muội; sau khi thân hoại mạng chung, bị tái sanh vào cõi dữ, ác thú, đọa xứ, địa ngục.
Ime kho bhikkhave pañca ādīnavā duccarite’’ti evamādinā bhagavatā bhāsitaṃ.
Indeed, O bhikkhus, these are the five disadvantages in misconduct,” thus was it spoken by the Blessed One, beginning with this.
