Mahābalopi teneva,

even if he is very powerful, by that very reason,

having grown, he will be destroyed.

the mouths of cats, tigers, and lions

But the Sāsana (teachings) is indeed rare;

Eso bālatamo bhave.

That person is the most foolish.

Yo patittha agyāvāṭaṃ,

Whoever stands by a fiery pit,

Mohā taṃ upakārituṃ;

Out of delusion, to help it;

Do si mê mà muốn giúp đỡ nó;

Aññorohi tadā vāṭaṃ,

Another then descends into that pit,

Người khác lại nhảy vào hố đó,

Dutīyo muḷhamuḷhako.

That second one is utterly deluded.

Kẻ thứ hai ấy là kẻ ngu si của những kẻ ngu si.

Byaggho āvudhaviddho hi,

Indeed, a tiger struck by a weapon,

Akā duṭṭhāni ninnadaṃ;

Emits fierce roars;

Tatheva sādhusatthena,

Similarly, by the excellent Dhamma,

Viddho bālo pakuppito.

A fool, when struck, becomes enraged.

Pivanti lohitaṃ ḍaṃsā,

Biting insects drink blood,

Anto tuṇḍena makkhikā;

Flies with their proboscis inwardly;

They surround from outside,

People are bitten by them.

For one without wealth, opportunity is scarce,

The Saddhamma (True Dhamma) has a short duration;

Appako tena yuñjeyyuṃ,
